Easingwold
has a choral tradidtion that stretches back over a hundred years. It has
changed its name and repetoire often during this period as the organisation
of a particular period
either developed or went through a process of change. Its first president,
and founder, Mrs. Catherine Love, served in this capacity from 1903 to
1928. The current president is Lynne Dawson.
Over
its long history it has had ten musical directors/conductors, the longest
serving in this capacity being Mr. Alfred Mattinson Wilson (Gerry) from
1944 to 1968. The current organisation has for twelve years been a member
of the national body Making Music. Its membership levels range between
forty and sixty men and women singing in 4/8 part harmony and have been
managed over the last ten years by Dr. Roger Tebbet, its current Musical
Director/Conductor.
The
Easingwold Singers perform two concerts per season, one at Christmas and
the other in May. Its recent repertoire ranges from Bach to Vivaldi. The
aim of the singers is to provide local audiences with good choral music.
The
choir is grateful for the continued support of patrons and sponsors.
